West Coast-raised, Montreal-based electronic artist Grimes (real name Claire Boucher) generated huge amounts of buzz this year when she performed at South By Southwest Festival in Texas, and as MTV News found out, although her style and sound can be described as "trippy", she doesn't always have drugs on her. "I was at a festival in Mexico, it's some sort of weed, political party or something, and on the way back, I guess I look suspicious or something and I was at the George Bush International Airport and I was there for over 24 hours," she says about having trouble getting in to Texas from Mexico for the South By Southwest Festival. "They were just like 'We know you have drugs!' and I was like 'I promise I don't'. They even brought the dogs, and I didn't have drugs." Grimes' Twitter account is full of thought-provoking 140-character titbits like "One day in bed with the internet and I regret looking at it. Once you become a subject of the internet, the internet becomes a dark place.", we asked her about those feelings. "People were really mad that I said I liked Lil Wayne," she says of internet "haters". "There's also this big thing that I don't shave my armpits. There's just backlash, you say something and people freak out." Another poignant Tweet was, "Don't need drugs to make music. I wish reporters would stop writing that. Drugs can enhance things, but are never necessary." "I said something about that once, and obviously reporters want to write about things that they think will get the most hits, but that really pissed me off."
